Police: Aguon was found in possession of marijuana

PRISONER Steve R. Aguon was found in possession of what was believed to be marijuana when he was captured on Friday night in Kannat Tabla, the Department of Public Safety disclosed yesterday.

Acting DPS spokeswoman Rose Ada said when Aguon was brought to the Division of Corrections shortly after his capture, officers found a bag in his possession containing what appeared to be marijuana.

However, Ada said the test results on the substance were still pending.

Ada also stated that contrary to the initial police report, Aguon resisted arrest when members of the Tactical Response Enforcement Team caught him at the family’s banana plantation in Kannat Tabla.

Ada said TRET officers had to use force to pin Aguon down to the ground.

On Monday, Ada said the initial report indicated that the prisoner cooperated with the arresting officers.

Aguon is facing charges of escape, resisting arrest and illegal possession of controlled substance, she said.

Aguon escaped from custody last week while attending a funeral wake for his grandfather.

Last December, the Superior Court ordered Aguon to spend five years in jail without the possibility of parole for the killing of garment worker Welly Tosie.

Aguon pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter for the death of Tosie, whom he struck with a baseball bat during a fight along a road in Kannat Tabla on Feb. 3, 2001.

Meanwhile, that police are continuing their search for Joseph Diaz Sablan.

Sablan was convicted last May 10 of oral copulation and sexual abuse of a child. He failed to turn himself over to Corrections as ordered by the court.
