Joe Tenorio, director for operation at the field office, said the break-in on Thursday night at their heavy equipment and truck depot was the second incident within two weeks.
About 155 gallons of diesel fuel were taken during the first break-in when the burglars gained entrance by cutting the perimeter fence at the backside of the depot.
Tenorio said backside area fronting the beach is very dark in the evening, and they have no security guard assigned to the office.
The diesel fuel was taken from the tanks of the two trucks parked inside the depot, Tenorio said.
The burglars also drained the fuel tanks of the Division of Parks and Recreation’s equipment parked in the area.
“Usually the break-ins happen during night time when there’s a power outage in the area,” Tenorio said.
The latest break-in cost the mayor’s field office 55 gallons of diesel fuel and has resulted in the delay in the delivery of public services, he said.
According to Tenorio, they use the equipment and trucks to transport water supply and repair roads.
“We have already relocated the equipment and trucks to an undisclosed area which is safer,” he said.
They could improve the perimeter fence of their Lower Base office, but this will require funding that they don’t have, Tenorio said.
