“Ongoing repairs on engine no. 8 and mechanical problems with engine no. 3 at Power Plant 1” required the plant crews to turn off multiple feeders, CUC said.
CUC earlier said engine #3 encountered problem with its piston and liner on cylinder #9, while engine #8 experienced excessive water leaks from its cylinders #6 and 16.
The same problems were experienced by the two engines yesterday.
“Multiple feeders were required to be taken offline due to insufficient power generation and to prevent the overloading of the other operational units” of the power plant, CUC said, adding that this measure was necessary to prevent an island-wide blackout.
According to CUC, the current load shedding schedule for this week was “expanded [yesterday] throughout the night and into the early morning.”
While engine #3 was put back online on Thursday at 3:30 a.m., engine #8 was not restored in the grid until late last night.
CUC prepared a revised load shedding schedule for yesterday’s power situation on island due to the problems with the two engines.
The communities that have been affected by the extended load shedding were Koblerville, As Gonno, San Antonio, and Afetnas, which are under Kiya 2: 2nd Partial.
Also effected were portions of As Terlaje, Fina Sisu, Kannat Tabla, San Vicente, Dandan, Airport Road, Isley Field and other places under Kiya 1: 1st Partial.
Fishing Base south of San Jose intersection was likewise affected. These areas are under Feeder 2: 2nd Partial.
Areas covered by Feeder 4: 2nd Partial that were affected included Capital Hill, As Teo, Kagman and portions of Papago.
Communities included in Feeder 1: 2nd and 3rd Partials, entire grid of Feeder 7, Kiya 4: 2nd Partial, and Kiya 2: 2nd Partial also suffered several power interruptions yesterday.
