Judge David A. Wiseman continued the jury trial yesterday.
Detective Jeff Olopai on Tuesday testified that he was assigned to oversee the operation against Ling Zhang, also known as Coco, and her boyfriend Qun Yu, a.k.a. Papasang and/or Jay.
Both were charged with two counts of trafficking of a controlled substance, three counts of possession of a controlled substance, one count of conspiracy to commit trafficking of a controlled substance, three counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, one count each of obstruction of justice and resisting arrest.
Zhang was additionally charged with two counts of unlawful possession of ammunition.
They have denied the charges.
Yu was arrested in 2007 in another drug-related case.
Assistant Attorneys General Russel Lorfing and Tiberius Mocanu are prosecuting the case while attorney Stephen Woodruff represents the defendants.
The first footage played showed the drug deal on Aug. 3, 2010 which was captured on video by authorities in front of a poker arcade in Garapan.
The second footage showed the high-speed car chase the following day, Olopai said.
He testified that “money, drugs, some scales, and other paraphernalia” were thrown out of the defendants’ vehicle during the pursuit.
Olopai said the defendants’ vehicle, with a speed of between 60 and 70 mph, almost collided with other cars.
Qun Yu escaped after the vehicle he was driving crashed into some trash in Chalan Kiya, police said.
After several days of hiding, the 44-year-old man, who appeared to be disoriented and dehydrated, was arrested within the vicinity of the former radar station in Marpi.
