Prosecutors fear they may be cited for contempt of court

During a recent hearing, Associate Judge Kenneth Govendo said he could  cite for contempt an attorney who failed to appear in his courtroom.

He was referring to Assistant Attorney General Brian Gallagher who was represented by another attorney.

The AG’s Office has four prosecutors left — Chief Prosecutor Rosemond B. Santos, Jennifer Dockter, Brianallagher, and William Downer — following the recent resignation of Assistant Attorneys General George Hasselback and Michael Evangelista.

Evangelista’s resignation takes effect on May 10.

Seven other assistant attorneys general have resigned since Gov. Benigno R. Fitial named Edward Buckingham as the new AG in Aug. 2009.
