Sablan said securing the federal grant is part of his efforts to ensure that the people of the CNMI care about their heritage.
He wants to see local children learning Chamorro and Carolinian language so these can be preserved for the next generations.
The federal fund will also help the NMI Council for Humanities which is currently revising the Chamorro-English dictionary, he added.
Education Commissioner Rita Sablan expressed her gratitude to the congressman’s continuing efforts to help PSS acquire the funds it needs for its schools and students.
Congressman Sablan said he was very happy that the U.S Congress gave the CNMI exactly the amount of money that he asked for.
He said he is grateful to House Appropriations Committee Chairman David Obey, D-Wi., and House Education and Labor Chairman George Miller, D-Ca.
