The generators will power the schools’ water pumps.
On Saturday, maintenance staffers of Koblerville Elementary School were seen cleaning their four water tanks in preparation for today’s classes.
On Thursday and Friday, PSS employees attended professional development sessions to prepare them for the new school year.
Today, PSS will have 11 buses to pick up and drop off students.
PSS, according to federal programs officer Tim Thornburgh, is expecting the delivery of six new buses in November.
From 516 classroom teachers last school year, PSS had 494 as of July 29, and is still hiring new teachers.
According to Sablan, “the system is equipped with the needed teachers” when classes open today.
She said PSS is also counting on their vendors’ commitment to deliver breakfast and lunch meals on time.
PSS is anticipating the completion, by the end of this year, of a new Marianas High School Building J and the upgrading of classrooms at different schools, Sablan said.
PSS was not able to build a new school or additional buildings due to lack of local funding.
