Education Commissioner David M. Borja said the number of qualified applicants far exceeded the 15 scholarships that the U.S. Department of Education has made available to the CNMI.

He said the 15 scholars were selected for their excellent essays, high cumulative grade point averages and fine commendation letters.

Borja said the CNMI needs the expertise that each of these scholars will acquire when they complete their studies.

“It is for that reason, that the Public School System urges each of these 15 scholars to be diligent in their studies and to come home and share knowledge and practice the skills they have acquired once they graduate,” Borja said.
