PSS, NMC, MCS cancel classes; BoG branches closed

THE Public School System said all classes today, Wednesday, Nov. 13, have been canceled.

Similar announcements were made by Northern Marianas College and Mount Carmel School. The Bank of Guam, for its part, announced the temporary closure of its Guam and CNMI branches today.

As of 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Gov. Arnold I. Palacios declared Tropical Storm Condition II for Saipan, Tinian and Rota.

“Classes are hereby canceled … for all PSS schools and programs, including Head Start/Early Head Start and Early Intervention. All PSS Central and school offices will also be closed,” PSS stated.

PSS was in “close communication” with appropriate government agencies, and was “on standby for any new information.”

In a separate announcement, NMC said due to the anticipated threat of Tropical Storm Man-yi (25W), the college campuses on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota will be closed today. Updates regarding the reopening of all campuses will be promptly announced, NMC stated.

“All staff and faculty are asked to closely monitor their NMC email, as campuses may reopen for employees [Wednesday] afternoon if conditions improve and campuses are safely reopened,” NMC added.

“The College will continue to monitor the weather through emergency management agencies. Please continue to take precautionary measures and anticipate storm conditions, including heavy rain and strong winds. Further updates will be provided when available.”

MCS announced that due to the governor’s declaration of Tropical Storm Condition II, classes at the Catholic school are canceled today.

“The resumption of classes will be announced on the school’s media platforms after the Office of the Governor announces the ‘ALL CLEAR,’ and the MCS President makes an announcement through the school’s official channels,” MCS stated.

BoG temporary closure

Bank of Guam announced the temporary closure of its branches in the CNMI and Guam today in response to the approach of Tropical Storm Man-Yi.

The bank branches will be closed until Condition of Readiness 4 is declared on Guam. Additionally, its Familia Contact Center closed early at 9 p.m. Tuesday evening.

“Our Neighboring Islands branches will remain open with normal business hours. Customers should be aware that wire transfers and ACH transactions scheduled for [Wednesday] may experience processing delays due to limited operations,” BoG stated.

To ensure readiness, the bank encourages residents to take the following precautions:

–Withdraw cash in advance.

–Download BoG’s mobile banking app for easy access.

–Secure your homes and remove or secure loose outdoor items.

–Have a flashlight and radio with fresh batteries on hand.

–Store important documents and belongings in safe, elevated locations.

–Fill up your gas tank.

–Do any necessary laundry ahead of time.

Bank of Guam said it will “continue monitoring the storm closely and provide updates via our website and social media channels. In the meantime, we encourage everyone to stay informed on Tropical Storm Man-Yi through official government channels, local news, and weather advisories.
