PSS to open Alternative Education Center

MHS principal Craig Garrison was given the task of moving the project forward when he took the helm of MHS earlier this school year.

Garrison selected the former PREL building located near the front of the campus to re-design into the Alternative Education Center.

The building was completely renovated with additional classroom space, four new restrooms, offices for an administrator and counselor, reception area, as well as room for four teachers who will staff the center.

Now that the center is complete the commissioner of education has elected to transfer the management of the facility to the curriculum-instruction and assessment department at PSS central office. It will operate independent from MHS.

The Alternative Education Center will serve students who are normally suspended out of school so that they remain engaged in learning but separated from the normal day to day instruction at their respective schools.

The center will also serve those students who are unwilling or unable to continue their education due to age or credit requirements resulting in referral to the GED program.
