Public Health launches H1N1 Web site

On Friday, Public Health Secretary Joseph Kevin Villagomez  announced the launching of the H1N1 flu preparedness Web site: http://h1n1dph.gov.mp.

The Web site, he said, will be regularly updated and will allow the people to ask questions about H1N1.

“We really want to vaccinate more people,” Villagomez  said.

More members of the public are heeding the H1N1 advisory, he added, because the Commonwealth Health Center has not seen a high rate of H1N1 cases compared to the other states.

He described the recent vaccination campaign as “very successful.”

He said CHC healthcare providers were able to administer the vaccine to 2,523 individuals, including 312 from the Tinian Dynasty Hotel; 155 on Rota; 1,096 at the Sabalu Market on Jan. 16; 604 during the Tuesday market on Jan. 14; and 356 at the street market on Jan. 11.

The mass vaccination will continue, Villagomez said, adding that his department has more than enough doses for the community.

From Oct. 29 to Jan. 19, he added, Public Health was able to provide 15,014 doses — 12,916 on Saipan, 57 on Rota and 1,041 on Tinian.

As of Dec. 28, Villagomez said the campaign successfully administered the vaccine to 339 children with Head Start, 5,753 students from kindergarten to 12th grade, and 651 students from private schools —  a total of 6,743 or 56 percent of the students visited by CHC’s healthcare providers.

Public Health immunization manager Mariana Sablan Coats said they set a 95 percent goal for Head Start, 85 percent for  kindergarten to 12th grade students; and 80 percent of the total vaccines allocated to the CNMI.

The CNMI, she said, was allocated 56,000 vaccines and received 32,000 already.

On Jan. 23, Public Health  conducted another vaccination drive at the Sabalu Market in Susupe.

Tomorrow, the campaign will resume at the Tuesday market at the Garapan Fishing Base; at Kagman, Garapan and Gregorio T. Camacho elementary schools on Wednesday; at Dandan, Oleai and San Vicente elementary schools on Thursday; and at Koblerville, San Antonio and William S. Reyes elementary schools on Friday.

Public health is still finalizing the schedules for the schools on Rota and Tinian.
