“It would appear like being impolite but people may want to avoid handshakes,” Public Health’s epidemiologist Edward Diaz said.
Pink eye cases on island were reported last week.
The public is advised to practice personal hygiene and to maintain a clean workplace.
“Always wash your hands. Always have a clean workplace, like computer keyboards, tables. Avoid rubbing your eyes,” Diaz said.
It was Dr. David Khorram of the Marianas Eye Institute who notified Public Health and the community about the pink eye cases.
“We have not seen an explosion of cases, and that’s a good thing,” Khorram said in an interview.
Pink eye is a highly contagious eye infection that can spread rapidly through communities, causing severe eye pain and even loss of vision, Khorram said.
“To prevent its spread, wash your hands frequently, avoid touching your eyes, and don’t share towels or pillowcases with anyone,” Khorram said.
