Public hearing to discuss rezoning As Perdido, As Terlaje

“The board approved to publish a notice of public hearing on the rezone. The notice will be published and will be followed by a public hearing,” Zoning Board Chairman Henry S. Hofschneider said in an e-mail to the Variety.

He said the proposal to reclassify the two as village commercial areas was submitted by Zoning Administrator Victor Barrett during last week’s board meeting.

In As Perdido, the area being requested for rezoning is located east of the traffic light intersection.

Hofschneider said a landowner has informed the board that he has an opportunity to lease his land and for the prospective lessee to develop and operate a hollow block manufacturing plant on the property.

In As Terlaje, the area is located just south of Northern Marianas College’s south open field.   Hofschneider said there is an existing retail store in the area.

The proposed changes to the official Saipan zoning maps may be viewed at the Zoning Office, second floor of the Joeten  Dandan building.

Comments on the proposals may be submitted orally or in writing at the public hearing that will start at 5 p.m., Nov. 30.

Written comments may be submitted directly to the Zoning Office by 4 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 1.
