Publication opportunity open for Micronesian writers

TWO independent Chamorro artists, Roaquin Siongco and Dizia Crisostomo, are calling out to writers and creatives from across the region to contribute to a forthcoming digital publication centering on grief.

The pair are calling for stories, poetry, critical analyses, photos, illustrations and more that reflect on how people across Micronesia deal with grief.

Submission deadline is Jan. 15, 2025.

“This zine is intended to affirm and provide processes of grief from our Micronesian perspective. Personal, familial, environmental, and cultural losses are realities we experience every day. Yet, despite the heavy weight, we carry on,” a media release stated.

The goal of the publication is to “serve as an important cultural testament of how we foster ways where we do not swallow our feelings, but rather bring light to a heaviness we all experience.”

Written submission should be sent as Word documents. The curators stipulate that the work should be under four pages.

Images may be submitted as PNG, JPEG, or TIFF formats, with a resolution of no less than 1500 x 1500 pixels.

All submissions should include a four- to eight-sentence biography that includes lineage or ancestry, and from where the artist is currently creating. The curators ask for a headshot as well.

For questions, reach out to  rbcrisos@hawaii.edu or rjsiongco@gmail.com/. Include “LL Zine Question” and a last name in the email subject line.
