The organization also hopes to match or surpass last year’s collection of about $40,000 from the event to support the organization’s projects.
Chapter executive director John Hirsh told the Variety yesterday that the registration fee is still $15. The 10k walk will start at 6 p.m. simultaneously at the 4H Building in Susupe, Taga Beach on Tinian and Guata Park on Rota.
Hirsh said participants will get a t-shirt, mini-first aid kit, and free sandwich and refreshments for walkers. The Department of Public Health will offer free blood pressure checks.
“We will be featuring many extra special activities including a health fair with free blood pressure/ glucose screening; H1N1 shots; games for the kids; cooking demonstrations from NMC-CREES and a fire department ‘Big Truck’ demonstration,” Hirsh said.
He said the event will offer various give-a-ways and lots of fun and excitement for the whole family.
Hirsh said the schools and school coordinators with the biggest number of actual walkers and the school with the largest number of donations will win a special prize package each.
The Red Cross will award a netbook computer to the first, second, third and fourth highest donations collected from individual students from kindergarten to 12th grade. The fifth, sixth and seventh highest donations collected will also win a special prize package.
The top three nonstudent individuals will receive prizes based on the amount of donations they have collected. Government agencies and businesses that turn in the highest amount of donation will receive a plaque while other non-school/non-profit organizations and aid station sponsors will receive prize packages.
All walkers who raise $75 on their pledge form will receive a free Samsung A650 cell phone and free $10 load from IT&E.
