Local chapter executive director John Hirsh said he was very happy with the good turnout for both events.
“Over 300 high school students participated at the youth dance held at the Club V of the Saipan Grand Hotel on Friday night, and over 130 students joined on the second night,” Hirsh said.
During the youth dance events, he said they displayed reading materials to let the students know what the Red Cross is doing in the community, and to encourage students to be more actively involved in these activities.
“We are very thankful to our students from Marianas High School, Kagman High School, Saipan International School and other students who supported the two-night event,” Hirsh said. Last year, the NMI chapter hosted the first youth dance program at the same venue.
At the adult CPR training held at the multi-purpose center in Susupe, Hirsh said the $5 fee for the first 50 participants was waived and funded by the Citizen Corps of the Department of Homeland Security. The remaining participants paid the $5 training fee. The regular CPR training costs $35.
Hirsh said the participants came from different sectors and private individuals who got their certification after the training.
“We had nine certified instructors who assisted in the adult CPR training,” Hirsh said.
They have another CPR training for infants/children at the Red Cross office on Airport Road sometime this month.
Hirsh is urging the community to participate in the upcoming activities of the Red Cross.
“Thank you for continuing to support the local Red Cross, and we hope to see everybody at the walkathon on April 9,” Hirsh said.
