THE accreditation of Northern Marianas College was the foremost concern of the board of regents when it acted “swiftly and efficiently” to fill the president’s post that has been vacant for almost a year now by offering it once again to Dr. Christa Adams, Regent and presidential search committee chairman Andrew Orsini said yesterday.
Adams was the board’s top choice but she withdrew her application because of a “family situation,” which has now been resolved.
“We are looking at a larger picture here,” he said, referring to the upcoming meeting of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges with the new NMC president.
WASC placed the college on show-cause status and cited its not having a president as one of the reasons.
The college is now preparing the supplemental report to submit before the scheduled meeting with WASC, he said.
“We very much want to fill the position before the meeting,” he said, referring to the presidency.
On May 9, Adams, a former president of Owens Community College in Ohio, asked the board to again reconsider her application.
During a meeting on Tuesday, the board authorized a re-negotiation with Adams.
Adams has until Monday to respond to the board’s offer.
