
THE NMC-Cooperative Research Extension and Education Services and DLNR-Division of Agriculture are conducting a biochar mini-workshop at the Kagman Ma’a’fala Breadfruit Plantation on Saturday, Nov. 23 from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., according to Northern Marianas College.
The mini-workshop will teach participants about the benefits and practical methods of using biochar to enhance soil health and farm productivity.
Biochar is a charcoal-like substance made from organic waste. It is formed from partially combusted organic material exposed to high temperatures and low oxygen. It can be used as a soil amendment.
The workshop will be conducted by Dr. Mohammad Golabi, professor of soil and environmental sciences at the College of Natural and Applied Sciences at the University of Guam.
