Members of the general public who are interested in attending the history lectures may contact the council for more information.
The institute is a six-session course that provides a comprehensive understanding of Northern Marianas history. Public School System teachers who complete the course will satisfy their NMI history certification requirement.
The institute will be held every Wednesday and Thursday from August 3 to 18. Topics covered in the six sessions include: (1) Geography and Pre-Contact Culture and History; (2) Spanish colonial period and influence; (3) German colonial period and Japanese colonial period; (4) World War II and Naval/Trust Territory eras; (5) Status Negotiations and CNMI Constitution; and (6) Current Issues and Cultural Preservation.
