Renovations to Sugar Dock pavilions, picnic shelter completed

DIVISION of Parks and Recreation Director Mike Cruz said the renovations to the pavilions and picnic shelters in the Sugar Dock area have been completed.

“The renovations started three months ago — repainting, fixing the BBQ grills, and adding solar lights — and were completed last week,” he added.

He expressed his appreciation to Precinct 2 Rep. John Paul Sablan, and Sen. Manny Castro, who also represented Precinct 2 in the previous House of Representatives.

“They were the representatives who secured the funding for the pavilion and picnic shelters,” Cruz added.

He said the Koblerville basketball court has also been renovated, this time “through a government and private partnership.”

According to Cruz, Han Nam Supermarket “adopted” the Koblerville basketball court through Saipan Mayor Ramon “RB” Camacho’s adopt-a-place program last year.

“Han Nam Supermarket paid for the renovation as a way of giving back to the community. The basketball court project did not cost the government anything,” Cruz said as he expressed his appreciation to Charlie Li, whose mother is a manager at Han Nam.

“Charlie Li is a student at Saipan International School, and he is the one who took on the project. I want to personally thank him for their contributions to the Koblerville community. It’s a win-win for everyone,” Cruz said.
