Retirees to discuss pension issues

CRA Chairman Juan Sablan said their agenda will also include the pending motion in federal court, asking to place the Retirement Fund under U.S. receivership.

Sablan clarified that it is their eight-man board of directors, and not their entire membership, that does not support the case filed in federal court — “ John Doe and Jane Roe versus Gov. Benigno R. Fitial, et al.”

Attorney Bruce Jorgensen  filed the case in an attempt to insulate the Fund from politics.

Sablan said their proposed meeting next month is very important as it will discuss pressing issues that affect the retirees and their families.

“We have things to discuss,” he said.

The Retirement Fund won by default its lawsuit against the CNMI government on its claims that it was owed more than $231 million in unpaid contributions as of April 2009.
