Yesterday’s board meeting was attended by several community members amid rumors that Guerrero, a candidate for governor, might be ousted as chairman.
All board members are appointees of Gov. Benigno R. Fitial.
“If they want to unseat me, I suggest that they read the bylaws so that the agenda would properly place the issue of election of a new chairman,” Guerrero said. “In the absence of that they can scream all they want but they won’t be able to do that.”
Guerrero said he will resign once he filed his candidacy with the election commission on July 11.
“I am ready [to resign]. But I like to conclude the lawsuit before I step down. I am really not using this. I could use it to get advantage if I am looking for political gains but I am not interested. I came here with a clear intention and that would remain my priority,” he added.
Acting Gov. Eloy S. Inos said they are not forcing Guerrero to step down.
“It’s up to him to make that decision,” said Inos. “I understand that he said he will step down. When? It’s a matter that Mr. Guerrero will decide on. We’re not forcing him to resign as long as he separates his political ambition from the main purpose of the Fund.”
