THE Commonwealth Board of Nurse Examiner has recommended to the Department of Public Health the revival of the continuing education program for nurses.
Rosa M. Tudela, board chairwoman and manager of Public Health’s nursing service, said this program plays an important role in the nurses’ professional development.
She said the board has, for the past four years, seen the lack of a steady and up to date continuing education program for nurses.
“By having such program available, all nursing staff can be given the benefit of improving themselves consistently and uphold a high standard of nursing practice, where, in turn, every patient deserves the best,” Tudela told Health Secretary James U. Hofschneider in a June 11 letter.
The nursing board also recommended the reinstatement of the continuing education coordinator.
This coordinator, according to Tudela, is tasked to coordinate, conduct and monitor all continuing education programs for nurses, as well as the orientation and training of new nursing personnel.
The board also informed Hofschneider about its intention to adopt emergency regulations for foreign-trained nurses who want to take the U.S. National Council Licensing Examination on Saipan.
