Angel Barcinas Manglona, 44, appeared with his court-appointed counsel Anthony Long for the arraignment/bail hearing yesterday morning. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kirk Schuler is the prosecutor.
U.S. District Court for the NMI Chief Judge Alex R. Munson set the jury trial for Aug. 3.
He said pretrial motions must be filed no later than June 25.
The court granted the motion of the defense to release the defendant to a third-party custodian, subject to several conditions.
The defendant must post a secured bond in the amount of $10,000, appear for all proceedings and surrender for service of any sentence imposed, submit to pretrial services supervision under the direction of the U.S. Probation Office, surrender his passport and other travel documents and not leave Rota without written permission from the court.
He will be restricted to a 6 p.m.-6 a.m. curfew in his residence.
He must participate in the electronic monitoring program and pay for its cost based on his ability to pay, and notify the court if there are changes in address or telephone number.
The federal government indicted him on May 28 for one count of conspiracy and one count for Hobbs Act Robbery for taking property belonging to Rota Poker with his co-defendant Wilbur Masga Inos on Aug. 4, 2008.
The indictment stated that on July 15, 2008, the defendant supplied Inos with a Colt rifle and drove Inos to the Rota Poker for the purpose of conducting robbery.
The prosecution said he waited outside the Rota Poker establishment and helped Inos get away from the scene of the robbery after the crime.
Inos last month signed a plea agreement and pleaded guilty to one count of use of a firearm in the commission of a violent crime.
