Rockabeat Kings dance team members are Edward Amado, Reyel Quezon, Josef Reyes, Adrian Caoleng, Daylan Pua, and Marshall Manglona, all students of Kagman High School.
The dance crew said they had been dancing for the past couple of years as a team but they only practiced religiously for the McDonald’s Dance Contest for the last two weeks.
“We are very happy for winning the contest. We didn’t expect it because the other teams were good,” Reyes said.
The team said they still have to decide what to do with their $500 prize. The Super, Candy Fabolistic Extra Super Delicious dance team grabbed the second place and won $300 and a trophy.
Third place winner was the Project Impact who won $200 cash and a trophy.
The other teams who received trophies for winning the fourth to eighth places were the Final Extreme, the LOST Squad, the Famous Crew, ETC, and the Angels.
The McDonald’s Saipan Middle Road outlet was jam-packed with spectators who came to witness the event, unmindful of the rain.
McDonald’s Saipan owner Joe Ayuyu said he was astounded by the positive response of the community.
“There are so many talents in our young people. We should have more events like this,” Ayuyu said.
Seeing the contestants perform hip hop, break dancing and street dancing made him feel like a teenager again, he added.
Judges for the contest were LJ Castro, Rey Gabriel, Ken Camacho, Edmar Manzanilla, and Eloisa Alejo.
McDonald’s Saipan held two elimination rounds on March 6 and 13.
