“Please enlighten me as to how Ms. Alpino was awarded class valedictorian for Rota High Shool this past June but yet, scored the lowest GPA according to the CNMI Scholarship Office that eliminated her from being one of two possible recipients,” Ayuyu said in his letter to Sablan.
The senator said he was “astounded” by the denial of Alpino’s scholarship application.
He said it is presumed that any class valedictorian will have the highest GPA among the graduates.
“I am certain that this was the case for Ms. Alpino when she graduated on June 10, 2011,” he said.
Alpino should have the highest GPA, he said.
“This is unnerving,” he added.
The senator is hoping PSS can shed light on the case within this week.
He noted that Alpino has started her fall semester at Pennsylvania University and “I am certain that we all do not want to interrupt her studies further by not resolving this matter.”
Arthur Alpino, Katelyn’s father, told Variety their family is happy that Rota lawmakers are looking into the controversy.
As of press time, Alpino said they had yet to receive the result of the investigation conducted by PSS.
