LOCAL attorney Robert Harrison Atalig Myers Jr. is running for senator in next year’s general election, aiming to push for the preservation of CNMI culture and a stronger economy.

He submitted his letter of intent to CNMI Republican Party President Joseph Leepan Guerrero last week.

The grandson of Antonio Camacho Atalig, Rota’s mayor during the Trust Territory era, Myers has over a decade of legal practice in the CNMI as an attorney. On his father’s side, he descends from the Myers, Dusenbury, Mooney, and Harrison families of Virginia, New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania, whose genealogy is tied to early American pioneers, Revolutionary War veterans, and the Harrison presidential family.

Myers said this unique blend of Chamorro and stateside American heritage has instilled in him both “the pride of our island traditions and the responsibility to serve with courage and integrity.”

“I am honored to officially announce my candidacy for senator representing Rota in the 2026 CNMI general election. My decision comes after much reflection, discussion with family, and encouragement from our community. I believe it is time to bring fresh energy, accountability, and a Rota-first vision to the Senate,” Myers said.

Aside from his commitment to preserving the local culture and strengthening the CNMI economy, Myers also vowed to ensure that Rota has a strong voice “in shaping the future of the CNMI.”

“I look forward to listening to the people and working together to build a stronger tomorrow,” Myers said.

Although he was raised in the States, he said he returned to Rota to raise his four children “in the heart of our Chamorro heritage.”

Myers currently works at the Rota Mayor’s Office, where he assists with grant applications. He also supports community initiatives, ranging from projects that bring resources to the island to programs that strengthen opportunities for its people.
