Rota man dies in single-vehicle crash

A 44-year-old man from Sinapalo died early Sunday morning following a single-vehicle crash along San Francisco Highway in Sonton, Rota, according to the Department of Public Safety.

DPS-Rota 911 dispatch received the call at approximately 1:47 a.m. on Sept. 21 reporting a crash involving a vehicle that struck a fixed object.

Responding officers and Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel found a silver Toyota sedan overturned on the shoulder of the northbound lane.

DPS Public Information Officer Fred Sato said, “The driver was unresponsive and was extracted from the vehicle by DFEMS fire personnel. Medics transported him to Rota Health Center, where he was pronounced dead at 2:37 a.m. by Dr. Nathan Jansen.”

Preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle had been traveling southbound when it veered off the roadway and struck a coconut tree.

The victim was identified as Michael C. Sikibert, 44, of Sinapalo.

The case remains under investigation by the DPS Highway Patrol and Traffic Investigations Unit.
