Rotarians ready to ‘adopt’ homeless families from Japan

In yesterday’s meeting at the Hyatt, Rotary Club past president David M. Sablan Sr. asked his fellow Rotarians to seek volunteers willing to provide shelter to families from Japan.

“We have so many of  garment factory barracks and empty apartments that have been lying idle for many years,” Sablan said.

He said they intend to seek help from the military on Guam to help clear the vacant garment factory barracks and to ensure that they are fit for occupancy.

Rotarians also plan to seek donations to provide  affected families with pillows, sheets and other basic necessities for immediate use.

“We have the local Red Cross, the Salvation Army and other organizations that can help us assist  homeless families that need shelter. The work is so big, more than we can handle and we need every assistance and the help of every volunteer that we can get,” Sablan said.

He said they need to coordinate with the Rotary Clubs in Japan.
