Rotary Club of Saipan donates welding equipment to NMTI

The equipment, worth $5,000, included a plasma cutter and two welding tables.

“I am really grateful to the Rotary for assisting us in the development of our people,” NMTI chief executive officer and Rotarian Agnes M. McPhetres said.

Club president Marcia Ayuyu said the equipment is “very important” to  NMTI and will benefit its local students.

Ayuyu said although her term as club president will end this month, she is confident that her successor, Sonya P. Dancoe, P.E., and her leadership team will continue supporting NMTI.

“Rotarians will continue to maintain our relationship with the trade school and other programs and activities that benefit the community,” Ayuyu said.

McPhetres said the donated equipment is a “great investment” in the school and will help encourage more residents to study at  NMTI.

She said without proper equipment, the trade school will not be able to implement its programs, which require hands-on lessons.

NMTI needs more equipment so it can serve more students, she added.

“Welding, for example, is a desired skill and once you learn it and get your certification you can get a well-paid job in the states,” McPhetres said.
