RP to assist NMI on hospital accreditation

PHILIPPINE Ambassador to the U.S. Albert del Rosario has expressed willingness to assist in the accreditation concerns of the CNMI with Manila hospitals.

Del Rosario said he had instructed the Philippine Consulate General here to extend help to the CNMI government on the hospital accreditation issue.

The ambassador, who flew to Saipan over the weekend, said he received a call from CNMI requesting assistance for the accreditation.

“We’re asked to help in terms of accrediting some hospitals in the Philippines, which can be utilized by patients from this region who want to obtain a higher level of medical care. Now, the consul general is on it,” del Rosario said.

Del Rosario also noted the importance of the CNMI as a host for Filipino nurses who want to take the National Council Licensing Examination at Northern Marianas College.

“It’s more convenient for the Filipino nurses to take the exam here,” the ambassador said.

Before, registered Filipino nurses had to go to U.S. to take the NCLEX.

“It’s difficult for some of them to do that because of the visa requirement. Now, we can just facilitate the entry of our nurses so they can come here,” he said.

The presence of a Philippine Consulate General in the CNMI also allows Filipino citizens to travel to the Northern Marianas without a tourist visa.

The CNMI government intends to promote the commonwealth as a major NCLEX center as part of its goal to boost tourist arrivals.
