Sablan meets with Miller in DC

Miller, D-Ca. and the chairman of the U.S. House Committee on Education and Labor, is a staunch critic of local labor and immigration policies, and one of the  main advocates of the federalization law.

With House Majority Floor Leader Joseph N. Camacho, R-Saipan, Sablan met on Tuesday with Miller and his key staff members.

“Congressman Miller is a leading advocate on many of the issues that are of importance to the people of the CNMI: education, labor, the economy and the environment. Our meeting…will be the first of many over the next two years but already I believe we have established a level of goodwill and an agreement to cooperate and work together in a way that the people of the CNMI will be proud of,” said Sablan in a statement

“The people of the CNMI will now have their voices and their aspirations heard at the highest levels of the United States government. America will continue to reinvigorate and renew itself. We are now going to be part of this renewal,” he added.

Miller is the chairman of the powerful House Democratic Policy Committee.

“In that role, he helps Democrats develop and articulate a wide range of policies to benefit all Americans,” said Sablan.

Miller also sits on the House Natural Resources Committee which has oversight jurisdiction over the CNMI and other insular areas.

Sablan considers Miller a key ally to help institute more reforms on the islands

Sablan left last week for the nation’s capital to attend the five-day orientation for freshmen lawmakers.
