Sablan says his office belongs to the people of the NMI

Sablan, who was accompanied by his supporters at the Commonwealth Election Commission where he filed his candidacy yesterday, said he will campaign only for one month because he needs to be back in Washington, D.C. to perform the tasks that the people of the CNMI entrusted to him two years ago.

Sablan said he posted a sign on the door of his office in the U.S. Congress that reads, “This office belongs to the people of the Northern Mariana Islands.”

He said the sign reminds him and his staff why they are there and who they work for.

He does not mind his opponents to keep doing “all the talking” here  as long as he continues “doing the real work” for the CNMI in the U.S. Congress.

He recalled that two years ago when ran for Congress, he promised to always represent the CNMI people with honor, hard work and a vision for the future.

“We have done much in the less than two years that we have been in Congress. And we can continue the progress we have made, building on our experience, the trust we have earned and the friendships we have established there,” Sablan said in a statement.

He is renewing his commitment to represent the CNMI people with honor and hard work.

“I work for you,” he told the people of the CNMI.

Ray Dela Cruz, Sablan’s campaign chairman, said they are conducting house to house visits.

Sablan’s father, Jesus, who accompanied his son at the election commission office, said the Kilili family’s commitment to public service is more aptly stated in the words of the commonwealth anthem that the delegate’s grandfather, Gregorio “Kilili” SN. Sablan, wrote.

The anthem, he added, “has brought the…people a sense of identity and belonging to this place we all love and call home.”

“This commonwealth is our home, as well as the home of so many people, and Kilili has made a promise to continue to honor the public trust and commitment to service that started with my father and now rests with my son. Kilili has given me his word that he will serve us honorably and will continue to work hard for all of us. As his father, and a constituent myself, I am certain Kilili will keep his word,” Jesus Sablan said.
