Safety of Cape Air aircraft concerns Torres

Torres said it appears that Cape Air, which flies on the route in partnership with Continental Airlines, is using planes that need thorough safety inspection.

Continental could not be immediately reached for comment.

Torres told the Variety the turbulent trip that passengers from Guam bound to Saipan experienced early this month was  caused by a loose screw on the body of the aircraft.

The lawmaker said this was according to his sources, which he did not identify.

In another flight, Cape Air’s fuselage also experienced trouble.

Cape Air’s flights have also been delayed many times but no adequate explanation was given to passengers.

Last Thursday, Cape Air’s flight bound for Saipan from Guam was delayed for two hours. Passengers said they were not told why their 10 a.m. flight was moved to early afternoon.

Torres said he intends to write a letter to Cape Air and Continental

Cape Air, a Massachusetts-based airline company, began flying the Marianas route in 2004.
