Saipan airport commuter road to be closed beginning Monday

THE Francisco C. Ada/Saipan International Airport’s access road to the commuter terminal will be closed starting Monday, May 6, 2024, the Commonwealth Ports Authority announced on Thursday.

CPA Executive Director Leo B. Tudela said the road closure will occur in phases, with Phase I set for May 6 to 20.

Toward Phase II, he said, both sides of the road will be closed, and those going to and from the commuter terminal will need to traverse through the road near Mobil’s fuel farm leading to the POI office.

But Tudela said access to the lower bus parking area for commuter users will remain open at all times.

In Phase 3, the half lane at the left of the northwest loop to the commuter terminal gate will be closed from May 31 to June 14 while in Phase 4, the half lane at right will be closed from June 15 to 24, Tudela said.

These schedules may be adjusted as work progresses, he added.

He asked the public to “kindly proceed with caution during these closure phases to ensure safety for the general public, our stakeholders and the contractor.”

In March, Gov. Arnold I. Palacios, Lt. Gov. David M. Apatang and CPA officials broke ground for the $1.7 million improvement of the access road to the commuter terminal.

Funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law for Airport Terminals Program through the Federal Aviation Administration, the project involves paving the access road from the intersection of Tun Herman Pan Road to the commuter terminal.
