Saipan as destination for renewal of wedding vows

Nishikawa said Saipan is a very ideal destination for marriage renewal ceremony.

“We are very near Japan, Korea, China and other countries and this makes the island very accessible,” Nishikawa said.

He and his wife agreed to be the “models” to entice other couples to follow their example and renew their marriage vows here too.

The wedding renewal ceremony was organized by Watabe Wedding.

Watabe Saipan Inc. branch manager Ayumi Hiramine said they organize an average of 300 weddings held here each year, especially in June and November but yesterday’s event was the first for a renewal of wedding vows.

“The island is very beautiful that’s why many people want to get married here. We would like to invite couples who have been married for years to come here and renew their marriage vows or celebrate their anniversaries,” Hiramine said.

She added that the island offers many romantic settings and a variety of locations where couples can renew their wedding vows.

Saipan Church of Christ minister Manuel Cabaluna, who officiated the ceremony told the couple that “staying together for 25 years through thick and thin, in sickness and in health” is not an easy job.

Silver anniversary

Nishikawa told the Variety he first saw Pamela at the front desk of Shangrila Hotel in Penang, Malaysia in 1986.

“I was assigned to work in Malaysia and she was also working there,” Nishikawa said. They soon started dating and got married after a year and a half.

Mrs. Nishikawa said  it two people to make any marriage work.

“We are very happy to reach another milestone in our marriage,” she said.

They have been on Saipan for three years. They have two daughters, and they are expecting their first granddaughter next month.

Mr. Nishikawa said the secret to having a good marriage is patience. His wife said  including God in their relationship kept them stronger through all these years.
