Saipan Awaodori team holds joint practices

Sonia Siwa of the Paseo de Marianas Promoters Inc. said the group now practices every Friday in Koblerville.

In the past months, the Awaodori dance members practiced separately in Koblerville, Tanapag and Gualo Rai. The joint team has about 50 members from seven to 15 years old.

“Everybody is working hard and giving their best in the practice and we appreciate the efforts of the members to give a superb performance next month,” Siwa said.

She said the dancers are very enthusiastic because “they want to make their presentation as perfect as they can.”

About 50 members of the Tokyo Tensuiren Group will be coming here next month for the group’s 25th anniversary.

The Tokyo Tensuiren Group is under the Koenji Awaodori Organization in Japan, a non-profit organization with about 30 groups under it.

Siwa said each group under the Koenji Awaodori Organization has from 40 to 100 members. Koenji has been in existence for over 60 years now.

“Our Awaodori dance team here is an extension of the Tokyo Tensuiren group and we call them Tokyo Tensuiren Saipan Branch,” Siwa said.
