Sonia Siwa of Paseo de Marianas Promoters Inc. said this will also be the first time for Tinian residents to see the team perform on their island.
Siwa said as of yesterday, 52 members of the Saipan Awaodori dance team had already confirmed their participation.
Some parents of the dancers from Koblerville and Tanapag will go with the group for the festivities.
The group will be brought to Tinian on a cruise boat early morning on Sunday.
The team has been conducting a coin drive at the Microl Intersection in San Jose since Jan. 21 to raise funds to pay for their boat fare.
“This Friday, Feb. 11, will be their last chance for the coin drive. We are urging the community to support our team,” Siwa said.
On Saturday, the group will be performing a community service in Garapan.
“The team will do a cleanup in the Garapan area as their way of giving back to the community for the support they have been getting for all the events through all these years,” she said.
Tinian’s annual Hot Pepper Festival is slated for Feb. 19-20.
The festival is designed to give tourists an opportunity to mingle with the locals and get a taste of a full weekend of food, arts and crafts, and island-style entertainment inspired by “donni sali,” Tinian’s internationally famous hot pepper.
