Saipan delegation waiting for Rota’s funding request

Torres, R-Saipan, said there have been informal talks among lawmakers about the commission, but Rota has not yet made any funding request.

Independent Rep. Victor B. Hocog, the Rota delegation chairman, has assured Rota Mayor Joseph S. Inos and the municipal council that he will help find financial support for the casino commission.

Hocog told Variety that his Saipan colleagues are willing to “lend” funds for the commission’s operation.

He said Rota needs at least $600,000 for the full establishment of the commission, which also has to hire a consultant.

Rota will repay the loan  by using the proceeds from the casino application and license fees, he said.

Torres said the Rota delegation should submit an  official request so the Saipan lawmakers can act on it.

The hiring of an executive director, legal counsel and professional consultant needed by the Rota casino commission has been put on hold pending the availability of funds.

Casino commission chairman Diego M. Songao said they have already asked the mayor’s office, the Rota delegation, Gov. Benigno R. Fitial and Lt. Gov. Timothy P. Villagomez to provide financial help.
