MAYOR Ramon Blas “RB” Camacho of Saipan, as the special guest of the island’s Rotary Club on Tuesday, discussed the projects his office has undertaken since he was sworn in last year.

“Help me help this community in promoting a safe community and safe villages [on] this island,” he told Rotarians.

He said he is looking for ways to partner with Rotarians on various community initiatives, including those that could be relevant to the youth at the end of the school year.

“I’m still struggling to come up with an after-school or a summer program,” Camacho said. “I could promote basketball, softball, and other activities, but again the financial is the issue. I think all of us are facing financial constraints.”

He also spoke to Rotarians about the Adopt-a-Place program, which has resulted in the adoption of one park, four basketball courts, two beach pavilions, two beaches, and the Garapan Fishing Base and its surrounding area.

He likewise mentioned the various village beautification projects undertaken by his office, and the meetings he has had with Precincts 1, 2, and 3 businesses, ethnic and cultural leaders as well as religious leaders.

Pastor Stephen Dame, a Rotarian who was present at the meeting of religious leaders with the mayor, commended Camacho for reaching out to community members.

Another Rotarian, Mike Sablan, vice president of Triple J, also praised the mayor for holding meetings with the public.
