Demapan will serve the remaining two-year term of Ursula Lifoifoi-Aldan who passed away in Sept. 2019.

“She is willing to serve and she is qualified,” the mayor said, referring to Demapan, an early intervention counselor of Northern Marianas College where she is responsible for implementing a new student monitoring system and provides support and outreach for students.

Before returning to Saipan in 2016, she was a graduate intern at the Center for Campus Involvement at the University of Michigan, a research assistant at Northwestern University, and a student assistant at Chaminade University of Honolulu.

A SHEFA and CNMI Scholarship recipient, Demapan graduated with an associate’s degree in business administration and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Chaminade University in Honolulu in 2015 and immediately pursued graduate studies in higher education administration with a concentration in student access and success at the University of Michigan in 2016.

Apatang said he will soon transmit Demapan’s nomination to the Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation for confirmation.

SHEFA chairman Oscar M. Babauta said he and other board members support the nomination, and will continue to maintain their good partnership with the mayor’s office.

The other board members are Juan “Shine” Tenorio, vice chairman; Francisco Cabrera, treasurer and secretary; and Raymond Muna.
