Saipan mayor’s office back to 64 hours next year

Currently, the mayor’s office is open  every other Friday despite the closure of other government offices on that day.

Hofschneider said they may have to go back to 64 working hours by  January.

He said Mayor Donald Flores has already informed his staff about this possibility.

“We are monitoring our expenses —  we’re hoping to have some lapsed funds for the operation and that may help our personnel budget,” Hofschneider said.

If they revert to 64 hours, the mayor’s office will be closed every Friday, he added.

The 2012 fiscal budget allows the mayor’s office to have 48 full-time employees but the actual funding allocation of $756,088 allocation covers 38 FTE’s only.

These FTE’s are currently working 72 hours per pay period, he said.

According to Hofschneider, the reduction of working hours has greatly affected the delivery of services to the community.

The mayor’s office has already stopped the delivery of tables even if fuel is provided by the person  requesting for them, he added.

“People now just pick up the tables. No more delivery,” he said.

The removal of trash is now being coordinated with the Division of Parks and Recreation, he added.

But the mayor’s office will continue to extend assistance, especially during emergency situations, during weekends and austerity Fridays, he said.
