Saipan mayor’s office removes 334 junk vehicles

Koblerville had the most number of  junk vehicles with 50, Chalan Kanoa had 35; Dandan, 31; Lower Base, 25; San Antonio, 22; As Lito, 19; Kagman, 18; Afetna, 13; Gualo Rai, 11;  Garapan, 10; Chalan Kiya, China Town, San Jose, San Vicente and Susupe had nine each; As Perdido, six; San Roque, Tanapag and As Terlaje, five each; As Teo, Navy Hill, and Sadog Tasi, four each; Puerto Rico, Chalan Laulau, and Kannat Tabla, three each; Achugao, As Matuis, Capital Hill, and Chalan Piao, two each; and As Gonno, one.

As of June 22, Aquino said an additional 104 junk vehicles had been tagged for removal.

The major challenge when removing these vehicles is the trash inside them and their tires, she added.

“We take the whole car, but the[recycling companies] don’t want the trash and the tires,” Aquino said.
