Saipan residents invited to Kilili townhall on Aug. 16

As an added feature of the town hall meeting, other local officials have been invited to also speak and answer questions about matters that are important to all CNMI residents. They will also be seeking input on legislation currently before the Legislature.

“I am extremely pleased that other officials have accepted my invitation to speak at the meeting — a request from prior townhall meetings — so that our residents can gain a deeper understanding of local issues,” Sablan said. “I look forward to another engaging discussion on Tuesday.”

“My office has learned a great deal from these townhall meetings in that they have helped me identify the core issues and concerns that people have on their minds,” Sablan added. “I am sure the other featured speakers will equally benefit from hearing directly from our constituents.”

The townhall meeting will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 16, at the multi-purpose center. All community members are invited to attend.

“I already hear by phone and e-mail from many people in the Northern Marianas about their concerns and opinions regarding national policy and the events they hear or read about in the media,” Sablan said. “But these townhalls will give us a chance to see people face to face, and, I hope, hear from even more of the people that we are representing.

“As do the other legislators, I want to talk with everyone directly about their concerns and what we can do to represent them well,” Sablan added.

Some of the issues expected to be discussed expanding educational opportunities for the people of the CNMI, the federalized immigration system, energy alternatives for the islands, environmental protection, and the services Sablan’s office can provide directly to constituents.

“I invite everyone to attend and participate in what I hope will be a very open and productive dialogue,” said Sablan.
