Saipan restaurants offer healthy lunch promotions

The Public School System- Food and Nutrition Services said healthy lunch options are available at Subway in Chalan Kanoa and on Middle Road, Oleai Beach Bar and Grill on Beach Road in San Jose, and Kinpachi Restaurant in Garapan.

For the whole month, Subway offers the 6” Turkey Breast Sub on 9-Grain Wheat Bread daily at $4. This sandwich has lettuce, local tomatoes, local cucumber, bell pepper, red onions, pickles, olives, banana peppers and jalapenos.

As a healthy and colorful option, Oleai Beach Bar & Grill offers  grilled tuna salad daily at $8 per serving. The salad includes lettuce, local tomatoes, carrots, onions and bell peppers.

Kinpachi Restaurant offers its bento lunch special at $5 everyday, except Sundays.

For Monday, the bento lunch special features chicken teriyaki, sashimi, fruit, salad, coco, rice, and napa soup. On Tuesdays, the bento consists of chicken roll, chopsuey, seafood barbecue, fruit, coco and rice.

For Wednesdays, the bento consists of yakitori, eggplant sautee, sashimi, coco, rice, and buckwheat noodles in soup. For Thursday, it is grilled saba, hamburger with baked sweet potato, salad, coco, rice, bean and sprout soup. The Friday bento is syabu-syabu, seafood barbeque, bitter melon sautee, coco, rice and napa soup. On Saturdays, the bento is yakitori, seafood kelaguen, tofu, coco, rice and buckwheat noodle in soup.

All the daily bento lunch packs from Kinpachi Restaurant include a colorful mix of local cucumbers, eggplants, tomato and bitter melon, napa, pumpkin, bell pepper tofu and fresh fruit.

The Public School System-Food and Nutrition Services campaign is urging other restaurants and food caterers on island to serve three or more dishes of different colors on their daily menus and help promote informed food choices and sound eating habits.
