The club turned over the gifts to CNMI Salvation Army ministry leader Wayne Gillespie during the Rotarians’ annual Christmas party at the poolside of the Hyatt on Tuesday evening.
Salvation Army CNMI chapter chairwoman Lucy Schilling said the toys will be given to the parents of selected children from low-income families.
“The parents will be involved because they are the ones who will give the toys to their children,’ Schilling said.
“It is important for the kids to feel that they are loved and somebody remembers them especially on Christmas,” she added.
Gillespie said the Salvation Army soup kitchen in Chalan Piao will be open tomorrow.
He said they will not be preparing a lavish Christmas menu like what they did last Thanksgiving but everyone who needs food are welcome to drop by tomorrow morning.
Schilling said they will prepare a special menu for tomorrow consisting of turkey salad sandwiches, soup and fried chicken.
On behalf of the Salvation Army CNMI chapter, Gillespie and Schilling said they continue to remain grateful to all the community members who have been supporting them and giving donations to help feed the needy.
“Without you all, we cannot continue to do what we are doing,” Gillespie said.
The Salvation Army soup kitchen is located on the second floor of the Salvation Army office across from Hopwood Junior High School in Chalan Piao.
In island formal attire, members of the Saipan Rotary Club with their families celebrated Christmas with the theme “Christmas by the Sea” with fun, laughter and a lot of dancing.
