Saipan Southern students make a literature and movie connection with ‘Beastly’

This group of moviegoers has high expectations since they read the book. Sophomore student Celine Cabrera says, “As we read the book in class, I was anticipating to watch the movie and to enjoy it as much as I enjoyed reading the book.” Sophomore student Dayanara Flores comments, “I’m not that disappointed though (referring to the movie) but it’s a good thing that I read the book first.”

Students were able to make a comparison of the literature and the movie. SSHS librarian Sudi Napalan said, “Sometimes students walk out of the theaters with strong emotions. I believe that I have helped them to be intelligent viewers by getting them to read the literature before watching the movie.”

The movie and literature connection event is organized by the SSHS Book Club to encourage  peers to read books that are made into movies. This is the 10th and final movie event that will be organized by the SSHS Book Club students.

Special thanks to Laura Bush Foundation, SSHS Language Arts Department, Bestseller Bookstore, Tasi Tours and Saipan Hollywood Theater for making this event possible.
