Saipan, Tinian, Rota public water systems in compliance, says CUC laboratory

In her report July 7 to Division of Environment Quality Director Frank Rabauliman, Yelin said a routine sample collected on June 16 from Saipan’s Isley Field 16 distribution area contained total coliform.

It was the single positive sample out of total 81 samples collected during the June compliance period, she added.

CUC water staff, she said, could not identify any distribution system cause for the positive test result.

The laboratory staff, however, conducted “triggered source water monitoring” at the 13 wells serving the affected area in accordance with the groundwater rule.

“None of the sources contained E. coli,” she stated in the monthly summary for the Safe Drinking Water Total Coliform Rule Report.

According to Yelin, 23 percent of all samples collected in June contained total coliform but the Saipan public water system complied with the total coliform rule.

On Tinian, she said, CUC staff collected five routine samples on June 22.

She said none contained total coliform.

The Rota public water system, she said, collected three routine safe drinking water samples on June 22 with all samples absent of total coliform.
