Saluta fails to attend sentencing hearing; feds take him in custody

A jobless nonresident, Saluta was convicted of assaulting an individual with a knife in an incident that occurred on April 19, 2009.

Variety was told Saluta was under federal custody in Guam. No other details were available as of press time.

Superior Court Presiding Judge Robert C. Naraja yesterday issued a bench warrant against Saluta with a $1,000 bail.

Last May, jurors found Saluta guilty of attacking Alejandro Orellano with a knife.

Naraja also convicted Saluta of disturbing the peace.

During trial, Saluta told jurors that at the time of the incident, he was holding his lighter which he described as a “shining metal.”

Saluta’s wife, a former garment worker, and their five young children are still on island.
