“This is a nationwide holiday program of the Salvation Army where we ask people for donations,” Wayne Gillespie of the local chapter said.
They are soliciting monetary donations, canned goods and other food items.
Gillespie said the items will go to the homeless and other people in need.
The Salvation Army’s “red kettle” campaign started last week and will end on Christmas Eve.
An online kettle is also available on Gillepsie’s Facebook page.
He has already raised $20 from his online kettle and still needs $230 to reach the $250 target.
